About This Project

This was the second CD release for the band FHOD. I developed the concept, design and layout for the entire project. Many thousands of these CD's were produced. Also available on the i-tunes store.

Project Details

This is a 8 panel layout with a double parallel fold. The objective was to depict a journey or voyage and sense of escape. I thought it would make for powerful imagery to incorporate sailing into this artwork. Since this is a Chicago band and the great lakes have a wonderful history of sailing, I thought it could be a great fit.

The CD design is a map compass design from an actual 15th century map. The lyric pages have a black and white composite photo in the background. The twisted shapes are the "Burnham" ironwork windows. The first window has a tall ship approaching, and in the second it's leaving.

The four panel reverse side depicts a composite overlay of sailing rigging, crowds and a series of numbers (which are map coordinates for locations the band worked on the CD). The cover design incorporates the abandoned church in Gary, IN., and again incorporates a map and sailing motif. On the back cover the band poses in the abandoned church.

The CD case also had a tray card that had to be produced which I used the red map image for the CD to lay on top of visually.
