About This Project

While many universities and colleges have put their view book or "look book" online for new potential students, at RFUMS admissions was continually being asked for physical print materials that they could review along with online content.

The goal was to redesign the layout for our university view book and admissions guide materials. While I show both the view book and admissions guide covers here, the spreads are from the view book. We wanted a very clean modern design for this piece that would be appealing to our target market of 22-30 year-old graduate students interested in a post-graduate medical education.

Project Details

The cover features a large photo that rather than just using a bleed, uses a broad white margin that allows the title to stretch across. The transparent type treatment is an effective and appealing way to be both eye catching and attractive. It offers a peek-a-boo look into the photograph that would normally be hidden by the text block.

The layout is very open and inviting, and the use of large images when possible enhances the experience for te reader. The illustration on second spread was a clever and interesting way to represent the history of the university as a DNA strand. The university began as two separate schools that merged to become one university. This illustration of DNA replication is an actual depiction of how this looks in real biology. Even the twisting pairs are scientifically correct.

These were printed in our in-house production area in small quantities of 200 on an as-needed basis, using our Canon Image Presses with booklet making capabilities.

The admissions department was thrilled with these new materials and had many positive comments from new potential students at a number of open house events.
